The Monastery of St. Ephraim of Nea Makri in East Attica was narrowly saved from fiery destruction.

A wildfire broke out in Greece’s Attica Region on Sunday and quickly spread, forcing the evacuation of multiple villages, as well as the Monasteries of St. Ephraim and of the Holy Dormition in Penteli.

The fire was nearly upon the monastery when the air and ground forces of the fire department finally managed to contain the flames, reports the Orthodoxia News Agency.

The same monastery was saved from wildfires in September 2021 as well.

The monastery is home to the relics of St. Ephraim of Nea Makri, which the saint miraculously revealed on January 3, 1950.
