Chilema, Niassa Province, Mozambique, July 1, 2026
Another mass Baptism was held in Mozambique at the end of last month, as 45 local residents were received into the Orthodox Church on June 28 at the parish of St. Mary of Egypt of the Russian Orthodox Church’s African Exarchate in the village of Chilema, Niassa Province.
The Baptisms took place following the Divine Liturgy. The Sacrament was celebrated by Fr. Christos Sitoe, rector of the Holy Trinity Parish in Maputo, the Exarchate reports.
Fr. Christos also gave a talk on the Sacraments of the Church and on Holy Scripture.
This was the fourth such mass Baptism carried out by Fr. Christos in Mozambique in June.
On June 6, he baptized 22 people in Zambézia Province. On June 13, 38 residents of the village of Tomboe were baptized. On June 20, 26 residents of the village of Muluma in Niassa Province were received into the Orthodox Church at the parish of the Apostle Thomas, where Fr. Christos also blessed the homes of the newly baptized.
