Metropolitan Ambrose of Kalavryta: Through immigrants the powers that be are seeking to change the identity of Greece

Athens, March 23, 2016

A statement made by Metropolitan Ambrose of Kalavryta on the problem of illegal immigration has provoked a wide response in Greece. The basic theses of his statement have been published by the AgionOros.ru website.

“No! We cannot shelter so many Islamists who are forcibly being sent to our country in order to seize it and change its identity!

We sympathize with the refugees and accommodate them, feed and clothe them, protect them and so on. But we cannot allow them to stay in Greece forever!...

We do not wish to bow our knee before the powers that be and to submit to their plans, because they seek to undermine our country.

European residents themselves are refusing to receive immigrants in their countries. Austrians have closed their borders. Germans have revolted. The Balkan states have sealed their borders as well.

Meanwhile Turks keep sending new immigrants to the Greek islands.

We do not want any compensation from Europe for sheltering refugees…

Let us not receive immigrants on the Peloponnese! Let us keep our national identity intact and free from contamination. Let us defend the Orthodox faith and our tradition. Let us defend our language and culture.

There is no place for immigrants like these in our country!

Do you know what happened yesterday? In Northern Greece some refugees refused to take food provided by the Red Cross humanitarian organization simply because there was the cross symbol on the boxes!

Not only were they rejecting the aid, but they were also crying in a frenzy of rage: ‘Not halal!’ That is, the food was ‘unclean’! And unclean only because the cross was depicted on the boxes!!!”
