Over the course of three weeks, the Orthodox Church in America managed to raise $650,000 for the Ukrainian refugee crisis.
His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon of Washington and All America and Canada made a special appeal for donations on February 28. On March 17, the Church reported that it had raised nearly two-thirds of a million dollars to be sent to ELEOS, the humanitarian agency of the Polish Orthodox Church.
The OCA asks that continuing support be offered through International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC).
Meanwhile, the Moldovan Church of the Moscow Patriarchate reports that it has spent nearly $350,000 (6,450,000 lei) helping refugees since the start of the armed conflict in Ukraine.
About 15,000 Ukrainian citizens have benefited from the Church’s assistance, including daily meals, accommodation, transportation, hygiene products, medicine, toys, linens, clothes, books, notebooks, and school supplies.
OrthoChristian reported last week that the Romanian Church has spent several millions of dollars helping refugees and those suffering in Ukraine, and humanitarian aid has been coming from the Church in many countries throughout the world.
