His Eminence Metropolitan Ioan of Banat of the Romanian Orthodox Church is well known for his constant social-philanthropic activities.

The Archdiocese of Timișoara, part of the Metropolis of Banat, is known for donating houses to large and needy families. And last week, Met. Ioan donated a house to an elderly man who had been living in a dilapidated building.

During a pastoral visit to Grăniceri in Timiș County, the Metropolitan identified the man’s house, in an advanced state of decay. The new house was built in just three days, reports the Basilica News Agency.

The house was also furnished and equipped with all the necessities for decent living. His Eminence also gave money to the local grocery store so the man can get food for a long period of time.

“We made sure to bring him the necessary furniture and a new cooking stove. I didn’t leave the house and leave him alone until I saw that everything was fine, because I met him crying, Met. Ioan told Trinitas TV.

The Trinitas TV report shows scenes from the man’s old and new homes:

In January, Met. Ioan celebrated his name’s day by eating with the homeless in Timișoara, as he does every year.
